- We received a note back from the State Treasurer’s office this week: “Thank you for hosting us on campus last week President Edleston. I added a few of the pictures from our visit to our website as well: http://kansasstatetreasurer.com/prodweb/about_us/photogallery.php”
Barb Wenger and I attended a luncheon hosted by the Kansas Bioscience Authority last Monday. We were pleased to find MATC acknowledged a number of times for our part in the preparation and continued education of laboratory technicians in support of NBAF and others. In fact our College, along with KU, K-State, and KBA was featured on the presentation’s opening slide.
- Marilyn and I interviewed Friday for a magazine article in a science research publication that will be featuring the synergy in Manhattan related to NBAF and MATC’s lab tech expansion and the multilateral relationships to achieve support and funding for it. Once published, we will share the article with all.
- At last night’s Board of Director’s meeting we had the privilege of honoring two individuals
whose selfless efforts have helped transform our landfill/ wooded area into a park and walking trail. While many of us have pitched in, Monty Enright and Mr. Linn Blecha have spent so much time in our woods clearing brush and creating a walking trail that no one has been able to keep count of the hours. Upon Monty’s recommendation and approval by the BOD the wooded area on the East side of MATC has been named Blecha Park at M.A.T.C. and upon approval of the BOD the trail, which will someday be sprinkled with benches and picnic tables, has been named in honor of Monty Enright. Congratulations to both individuals and keep up the good work.
- We had our all Staff BBQ at the EP&D site Thursday. Brent had a chance to discuss the site and its uses while Tracy, our expert scrounge, was able to solicit enough donated food so everyone could get their fill for $.80 per person.
If we are collecting blood then it must be getting close to Halloween. The goal for last Wednesday’s blood drive was 35
units and we were able to collect 51 units. Way to go SGO and Student
Services for making this drive so successful! During the blood drive the SGO also hosted their fall BBQ in the East parking lot. A good time was had by all and, as usual, the mega teeter-totter was a big hit.
The annual “Representative Tom Hawk Invitational Open Golf Outing” was loads of fun. Pictured here is Tom sinking a put to place his group in second place overall.
The BT House coming along nicely. It is located at the south end of Highland Ridge Road directly behind last year’s house.
- Jane reaffirmed her grandmother status for the third time last Wednesday with the birth of Alaise Rose, 6 lbs 4 oz.. Congratulations to your Son Al and daughter-in-law Haley.
Coming up: MATC Fall Open House will be held on Thursday, October 21st, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Tell everyone you know to come on out and spend a little time looking around.
- Upcoming events: Chamber of Commerce retreat Tuesday; KBOR on Wednesday; Vet Tech meeting on Friday and, of course, or HLC Re-accreditation visit starting the 25th.
- Congratulations to Barb Sollner (formerly Anderson) on her marriage last week. I understand that she is floating around the Caribbean on her honeymoon, hopefully avoiding all the tropical weather.
Trysta Williams and her sister Tara Claussen (Mark’s wife) ran in their
first (and possibly last) Marathon last weekend. 26.2 miles in the Waddell & Reed Marathon in Kansas City. They made it in five and a half hours. Congratulations
- Students are gearing up for this year’s flag football tournament. EP&D is hoping to retain the trophy, but we will see.
We heard last night from Helen Wimsatt that the International (yes, International) Electrical Lineman’s Rodeo competition was won this year by IBEW 304 AND they placed 5th overall and 1st in the contractor division. They are all Westar Employees and MATC graduates. Way to go guys!
- Finally, I would like to express my heart-felt thanks to everyone who expressed their care and concern during my wife Brenda’s recent unscheduled surgery. She is doing well and returned to work part-time Monday. Thank you for the cards, flowers, stuffed animals, fruit basket, and big home-made cake. You all have been very kind.
Have a great weekend everyone.
